In a previous article, we
discussed direct mail. There is another method using the good old postal
service that can get your message out there, in a more of a disguised
advertisement. Christmas Cards can be not only a friendly message to clients, but also a smart advertising move. Many companies are inundated with cards from all of their vendors. So, why can’t homeowners also get something from their contractors? Around the holidays, we think of those we love. We spend hours gathering addresses, writing personal notes in cards, stamping and finally sending them cards. What do many people do with their cards? That’s right. They display them. When guests come over around the holidays, what do they do people do? They look at your cards while you are in the kitchen pouring eggnog. Send out a Christmas card to your customer base with your company name on the front, and maybe a witty line inside that pertains to your line of work. This does a few things- reminds them of you at a time when they see more people than they normally do. So, not only may they talk about you (ex: “I got a Christmas card from they guy who painted my house…”), but it may also spark an idea for a new project- “Santa brought the kids too many toys this year- we should call so-and-so to build a play-room”) Building rapport is one great way to ensure repeat business, as well as referrals. Sending a Christmas card shows that you are thoughtful enough to consider your clients and their family. You can go a step further and write a personal message for each client such as, “I hope you are really enjoy the new basement. I know that’s where you said you were going to put up the tree. May you have many more Christmases in your remodeled family room!” This will make your customers day! |
