Hey Buddy, Where’s Your Sign?

Let me ask you a question. When on a construction site, do you have a sign stating your company name and phone number, for all passers-by to see?

If you don’t, you should! Like a temporary billboard, drivers and pedestrians alike that pass by your jobsite on a daily basis will constantly reminded of your company name. The longer you are at the job, the longer the ‘ad campaign’. I often see ads in front of new construction that say, “Another Project Financed By (Bank Name Here)”. Keeping your sign in a similar format will work well. The sign does not have to be busy- just simply your name and number and a simple message like the one mentioned above will do it.

You can get these signs in a variety of material, and when and where you do your work will be the judge of what will work best. If you do a lot of smaller jobs, perhaps a wooden sign or corrugated plastic could be used to prop up in front of the home or job site.

If you are working on part of a commercial project and the property is lined in wire fencing, as many city projects are, vinyl banners work very well- just don’t forget the wire ties! If you live in a cold climate or tropical climate, where weather can be unpredictable, a durable sign that can withstand the elements is a better choice. Since you will already have a great sign or two to showcase, they can be used for other purposes too, such as home shows
and other exhibits.

Having a sign up in front of a job site will keep you top of mind to the people who pass by everyday. Once the job is complete, if it is an exterior one, those same people will see the results come together, giving your name more merit. By then, if a new neighbors ask about “that beautiful home on the corner” you can tell them, yeah, they just had new siding put on by so-and-so. A networking dream!

This idea may seem obvious to some, but many people are not taking advantage of this easy advertising method. So- what’s your sign?
