Electrical construction software now available with many options

Electrical contractors have more options than ever when they purchase electrical construction software. Estimators and other applications specially designed for their industry come in many different versions and are widely available. Some electrical construction software is even available for PDAs.

Electricians can now store their estimates in PDAs in the field and download them to their office computers later. These programs contain other tools such as tables that are helpful to electricians as they choose the appropriate breakers, wires, conduits and transformers. Some software even includes the some inventory control features; for example, they can have the ability to create a list of employees and the tools that are assigned to them.

Another type of electrical construction software that has become a lifesaver for electrical contractors creates project estimates. Dozens of these products are available. Estimators help provide accurate, detailed and consistent bids. Invariably, every contractor inadvertently leaves out a couple of details in an estimate, requiring them to go back to the buyer and ask for more money. With estimating software, all potential costs of the project are there as reminders to help cut down on the number of omissions. Some older versions of electrical construction software contain standardized information that cannot be changed, which limits their usefulness.

Electricians should look for a software package that allows database management and the ability to interface with common accounting and office software packages. Other electrical construction software gives electricians the ability to track their employees’ jobs and tasks, as well as jobs and projects for specific customers. Both tools let the electrician determine which jobs are the most profitable and which employees are most productive. With all the options available today in electrical construction software, the electrical contractor can pick and choose what he or she needs, depending on his needs, preferences and technological ability.
